Today’s picture of the week is from a lovely session I had last October with 2 year old twins.  I had a lot of images I loved from that session.  This is one of my favorites though.  To me, it just captures “little boy” so well.

Strawberries

Tuesday, April 27th, 2010

Ok, I admit it.  I bought the incredibly cheesy infomercial product Topsy Turvy Strawberry planter.  My whole family loves strawberries, my older son is at the age to really start appreciating how plants grow, and I had a coupon at Bed Bath and Beyond.

In late March (I think) our strawberry plants arrived.  25 “plants”.  More like roots.  I was pretty skeptical, but we planted them, and we’ve been dutifully watering them every day, when the rain didn’t do it for us.  After a week or so, we saw some green, and by the end of spring break, we came home to green leaves poking out everywhere.  (3 of the plants didn’t grow, but out of 25+ (we got a few extra), I’m ok with that.)  About a week and a half ago, I noticed our first bud.  We’ve over a dozen buds now, and the first one is a full-fledged flower!  Won’t be long before we’ve got our first harvest of berries.

Here, though, is our first bud, taken at the end of last week, and a couple of it’s “younger siblings”:

Yesterday I got to meet Casey, who is beautifully 36 weeks pregnant.  We really lucked out with the weather – it was supposed to rain all weekend long, and the storm didn’t come through until a few hours after our session.  I do like it when the weather cooperates!

Isn’t she glowing?

In retrospect, I think making a pregnant woman stand near a waterfall may have been a little mean.  Sorry!

It was great meeting you yesterday, Casey!  Enjoy the rest of your pregnancy, and I can’t wait to meet your baby boy!

Curious George

Monday, April 26th, 2010

Last Wednesday, I chaperoned my son’s kindergarten field trip to Port Discovery, a great children’s museum in Baltimore.  It also happened to be his 6th birthday.  The whole class had a great time.  One exhibit they have there right now is a Curious George exhibit.  It’s very cute and lots of fun, and both my kids are just enamored with that little monkey.  Unfortunately, I was stationed by the stairs, making sure none of the kids took off for another level, and it was crazy crowded in there, so I didn’t get to get many pictures of it.  But here’s my birthday boy, taking time out of his busy day of play, to humor his mother and stand next to the doorman for a picture.

It’s still Wednesday…

Wednesday, April 21st, 2010

Though I am cutting it kind of close :)   I chaperoned a field trip with my son’s kindergarten class, and today’s his birthday and with all that craziness, there wasn’t a lot of time left for anything else.  But, I’m holding off exhaustion to post this week’s picture of the week!

This is a new one, from a session I just finished editing.  I don’t know why, but I just love it.  The baby innocence, the lack of inhibiting clothes, the perfect amount of baby chub, or maybe it’s the hairstyle that looks very similar to the one my 2.5 year old has (the kid isn’t blessed in the hair department).  Whatever the reason, it’s probably my favorite image from the session.

And with that, I’m off to bed.  Night, everyone!

I’m glad it’s nice out now!

Snapshot monday is fun for me.  I get to dig back through all my snapshots of my kids and find a gem.  It is hard to pick just one though!

It’s hard to believe, with the weather we’ve already had this spring, what the weather was like 2.5 months ago.  Heck, 2.5 months ago, it was hard to believe the weather we were having!  I certainly do not miss 30+” of snow in one snow storm, and I hope I never see it happen again.  Especially not several snow storms like that!

This was on the first day the kids finally went back to school.  The path from the bus stop to the street.  Daniel is graciously demonstrating the height of the snow piles:

And now, I’m going to go outside, and be very glad all that snow is gone, and enjoy the nice, spring weather!

Wednesday Again!

Wednesday, April 14th, 2010

Before starting this post, I actually had to double check the calendar and make sure it really was Wednesday!  This week has flown by and I thought for sure it was only Tuesday.

I love newborns.  They’re so tiny, so new, and so peaceful when they sleep.  And I love the way their faces scrunch up.  The squished eyes, the pouty lips…  I’m sure Miss J is more awake now, since she’s 5 1/2 weeks old, but she was delightfully sleepy at her newborn session.

My kids have a horrible affliction known as Photographer’s Child Syndrome.  It almost guarantees that I will not be able to get a decent picture of them for the rest of their lives.  Once in a while, I get lucky, but usually, they whine, pout and demand candy for me to even attempt a picture of them.

My oldest, Noah, is about to turn 6.  This weekend, I tried to get a decent birthday picture of him.  A couple were ok:

There was a lot of this:

Once in a while, the planets align just right, and I get a good picture.

And that’s why I only take portraits of them twice a year.

We had a very busy week last week.  It was spring break, so I took the boys to visit grandma.  And Daniel got his first haircut!  He was a champ – not a tear, and barely a squirm.  Just happily ate his lollipop the whole time.  Hopefully no one will mistake him for a girl now.

Picture of the Week! | columbia md child photographer

Today it’s really 3 pictures.  A storyboard, created from a mini session last fall, that I just adore.  3 pictures, shot in rapid succession (each was  a few hundredths of a second from the previous one, I believe).  All my storyboards tell a story (or so I hope!), but this one, I think, does the job especially well.  By themselves, the images are lovely, but together, they’re so much more.

Have a great Wednesday and a wonderful rest of the week!
