Emily Steele Photography – Blog

I’ve decided to start a new feature on my blog.  Every Wednesday (or so I plan…) I’m going to post a photo of the week, and give a little info behind that photo.  A way for me to go back to old sessions (or new!) and dig out my favorites that might not have made it onto the blog in the sneak peeks.  Not necessarily the best, or most technically perfect images, but ones that have spoken to me, in one way or another.  I hope you enjoy it!  Keep checking – you never know when an image from your session will become the photo of the week!

So, here’s our first photo of the week!  This is Little S.  He was about 9 months old at the time, and boy, could he walk.  It was so amazing to me, because my kids are motor skill slackers.  Mine walked at 19 months.  Hard for me to wrap by brain around kids walking at 9 months!  But this image just summarizes toddlerhood to me – those initial steps, always with the hands up for balance.  Plus, I love the colors – the yellow of the fall leaves, the red and blue of his clothes.

Today I got to meet Miss O, who is almost 1 and had the most beautiful blue eyes!

She was such a doll, though very serious.

And she wasn’t too fond of my pettiskirts, though I love the way her little toes peek out!

So nice to meet you today, O!  Have a great birthday!

For every session, I shoot way more images than I show.  Every so often, someone will ask why.  Children are unpredictable.  Adults are too.  We all have this nasty habit of needing to blink.  And it doesn’t matter how adorable you or your child is, that look just isn’t good.  My son is happy to demonstrate:

Today I got to meet J, the sweetest little newborn girl!  I had the pleasure of doing her mom’s maternity portraits in January, and today I got to meet the baby behind the bump.  She was such a doll.  Slept the whole time.  I cannot get over how cute she is!

I wish all my newborns were as sleepy as this one!
