Newness

May 16th, 2012

It’s been a long time since I managed to post anything.  It’s amazing how busy spring gets!  Between spring break, birthday parties, school events and a much needed trip, I feel like I’ve barely had a chance to breathe since the beginning of April! But I did get to photograph this little cutie.  Isn’t she […]

It’s been a long time since I managed to post anything.  It’s amazing how busy spring gets!  Between spring break, birthday parties, school events and a much needed trip, I feel like I’ve barely had a chance to breathe since the beginning of April!

But I did get to photograph this little cutie.  Isn’t she adorable?

It’s been so long since I’ve gotten to photograph a baby girl!  It was nice to be able to pull out the pinks and purples again.

Curious what they ordered?  Click here to find out!

Newborns

Just over 3 years ago, I got to photograph little miss J.  She was one of my first newborns, and she’ll always hold a special place in my heart.  She didn’t want to sleep, and only wanted to be held by her mom or dad.  That was a difficult session, and yet it resulted in some of my favorite newborn images to date:

Now, little miss J is 3, and she’s a big sister!  Her little brother C is here!  I love shooting siblings.  It’s so much fun to see how the older ones have grown, and how much the new one looks like his or her sibling.  And C looked a lot like his big sister!  Isn’t he adorable?

Big sister wasn’t quite sure what to make of all the baby business.  Hasn’t she grown so much?

Click here to see what C and J will get to see as they grow!

A lot of people are surprised when they find out how soon after birth I want to schedule their newborn session.  Newborns photograph best in the first 10 days of life.

I know – you just gave birth, spent at least 3 days at the hospital, you’re barely sleeping, and the last thing you want to do is have someone come over to your house.  But really, it’s so important to capture the perfect newness of your baby when they’re very new.  Newborns are sleepy, they’re tiny, pose-able, and they change so fast.  Once they’re about 10 days old, they start being awake more, and they become used to the extra space they didn’t have in the womb and stop curling up into those cute newborn poses.

I promise, I don’t care what your house looks like.  I’ve had 2 kids – I remember those sleep deprived newborn days.  I’m sure my house has looked worse.

I don’t expect entertainment when I’m at your house.  I’ll be busy working to capture those precious first moments of your sweet baby.  Most people find their newborn sessions relaxing!  For the majority of your session, you don’t need to worry about your baby.  You can watch her adorableness as I work with her, you can enjoy the freedom to eat a snack with 2 hands, you can even snooze on the couch!  I promise, I won’t be offended if you doze off.  If your baby needs to eat, I’ll let you know.  If I need something, I’ll let you know.

You only have one chance to capture that newborn baby perfection, and it’s a short window.  Because of this, it’s so important to contact me a couple months before your due date, so I can be sure I’ll be able to schedule a time for your newborn session.  Since we don’t know exactly when your little one will arrive, I pencil you in around your due date, and leave some flexibility in my calendar in the surrounding weeks.  By the time you get your print order, your baby will already have grown so much – you’ll be glad you took the time to record a glimpse of him when he was tiny and new.

Whew.  You know those days where you wake up, blink, and then the day is over and you have no idea how it happened?  For me it’s been more like a month and a half.  I have no idea what happened to March, and I cannot believe April is almost over!  It’s been a crazy busy couple of months.  I have a bunch of images to post – now I just have to find the time.  Stay tuned, I’m sure I’ll get them all here eventually.

First though, I want to introduce you to two little cuties.  I got to meet these sweethearts in March, and they were absolutely perfect!

This is big brother, in age and size!  I just love squishy newborn lips.

And little sister.  She didn’t want to sleep for me, but once we got her down, she was out cold.  And so adorable.

It was funny though, every time I’d move her – whether it was changing the pose or just adjusting an arm or a leg – she’d whimper and give me this face.  But within seconds was sound asleep again.

And lastly, my favorite image from the session, and one of my favorite newborn images ever.  Aren’t they just the sweetest things ever?
