I love summer.  But really, these near 100 degree days this early in the year are a bit much.  Today we escaped the heat for a little while with a trip to the nice, air conditioned playplace at McDonalds.  Apparently that air conditioning doesn’t carry as well to the top of the playplace though, as Daniel came down completely sweaty.  Heat aside, he appreciates it, because then he can have “silly hair”!

And while I’m posting snaps of the little squirt, here’s his “cool dude” impression from the other day while we were waiting for the school bus to bring home Noah:

Heat’s supposed to break soon, thankfully.  Until then, stay cool!

New year, finally getting back into the swing of things…

Daniel is a hat kid.  He’s always loved them.  To the point where I’ll try one on him in a store and then I have to buy it because he won’t take it off.  On black friday, we went to the Piedmont Craftsman’s Fair in NC, and got my boys each a hat from The Mouse Works.  These hats are so cute.  If you need at hat for your kids (or yourself!) definitely check them out.  Warm, well made, adorable, and earth friendly!  Daniel loves his.  Wears it every day, and refuses to take it off when we come inside (he says he’s “a little chilly” but he also tries to sleep in it).  Last week, he was eating lunch, with his hat, and it was just a little crooked, and so cute.  I had to snap a pic.

Big happenings around here this past Thursday!  Remember the loose tooth?  We got a lot of giggle mileage from that tooth.  First, it hung down a little lower than the other tooth.  Then it pointed inwards.  And for the last week, it’s been poking out.  But when Noah got off the bus on Thursday, it was gone!  (And safely stored in a tooth shaped necklace around his neck.)  Now he’s excited that he doesn’t have to open his teeth to drink from a straw!

Getting past the busiest part of the year and I’m finally able to come up for air!  This weekend, we went to Boo at the Zoo at the National Zoo.  If you’ve never been to Boo at the Zoo, I highly recommend it.  The kids have a fabulous time every year, and we bring home huge bags of loot.  It’s slightly less appealing for the parents, who have to push a stroller up that giant hill at the end of the night, but it’s still fun.

We took the kids out this weekend to try to get some christmas card photos.  I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again – it is so much easier for me to get portraits of someone else’s kids than my own.  Here’s a little “behind the scenes” video to demonstrate.

Yup, my big guy got on the bus this morning to head for his first day of 1st grade.  He’s endlessly excited about this.  Over the weekend, he said, “I can’t believe I’m in first grade!  Sometimes it feels like I was just born yesterday.”  Yeah, tell me about it.

Hope everyone else in Howard County enjoys their first day of school today too!

We’re about halfway through our vacation.  It’s been a busy trip so far!
