Is there anything more fun than a big box?

May 25th, 2012

If there’s one thing my boys like, it’s a big box.  Especially one they can draw on.  Last time we were visiting my mom, they got a nice big box to play with.  And some brand new markers too!  Add in some nice weather, and it’s the perfect excuse to make a new fort in […]

Wherever the boys go outside, so goes the dog, Bandit.

Whatcha doin, boys?

Even if it has boys inside, a box and markers are not as much fun as sticks.

Bandy the wonder dog loves sticks!

They’re awfully cute when they work together.

Goofballs | columbia md child photographer

June 23rd, 2011

These are my kids, hanging out at the bus stop yesterday morning.  Cute, right? There’s a reason I call them goofballs.  The younger one, especially.  Check out the next 2 shots: Yep, that pretty much sums them up!  A picture’s worth a thousand words, right?

End of the Year | columbia md family photographer

Sigh.  It’s the last day of school.  Surprisingly, no one in my house is happy about this.  Noah loves school, and is really sad that the year is over.  It’s going to be a long busy summer, but my boy loves school.

Here’s his first day of kindergarten, and first day of 1st grade, respectively:

And here he is now, a soon-to-be 2nd grader:

(Why yes, he did pick out his own clothes this morning.  And no, he didn’t brush his hair.)

He’s had a great year in first grade.  He learned to multiply and divide, he read more books than I can count (he’s already finished the library’s summer reading program, and the one at Borders).  He made some great friends.  He lost 4 teeth.  I can only imagine what 2nd grade will bring.

Next, time for summer, and camp!

It’s HOT | columbia md family photographer

June 1st, 2011

I love summer.  But really, these near 100 degree days this early in the year are a bit much.  Today we escaped the heat for a little while with a trip to the nice, air conditioned playplace at McDonalds.  Apparently that air conditioning doesn’t carry as well to the top of the playplace though, as […]

And while I’m posting snaps of the little squirt, here’s his “cool dude” impression from the other day while we were waiting for the school bus to bring home Noah:

Heat’s supposed to break soon, thankfully.  Until then, stay cool!

Happy Birthday! | columbia md child photographer

Someone I know turned 7 last week.  7!  I cannot believe he’s 7 already and I have absolutely no idea where the time went.  I still remember the sleep deprived haze of his newborn days, when we had to wake him every 2 hours to nurse (poor little thing was jaundiced).  Somehow between then and now he learned to walk, talk, read, ride a bike (still with training wheels), and he’s lost 4 teeth, with 4 more on their way out.  He’s an amazing little man, and he makes me proud every day.  I can’t wait to see the person he grows into, and at the same time, I want to tell him to stop and be a little kid for a while longer.

But enough Mama sappiness.  Here’s my big guy:

Here he’s my little cowboy.  My mom brought him the shirt and boots from Mexico, and he loves them.  This attitude is pretty typical of our photo shoots – he’d rather be somewhere else!

Happy birthday, big  guy.  I love you so much!

New year, finally getting back into the swing of things…

Daniel is a hat kid.  He’s always loved them.  To the point where I’ll try one on him in a store and then I have to buy it because he won’t take it off.  On black friday, we went to the Piedmont Craftsman’s Fair in NC, and got my boys each a hat from The Mouse Works.  These hats are so cute.  If you need at hat for your kids (or yourself!) definitely check them out.  Warm, well made, adorable, and earth friendly!  Daniel loves his.  Wears it every day, and refuses to take it off when we come inside (he says he’s “a little chilly” but he also tries to sleep in it).  Last week, he was eating lunch, with his hat, and it was just a little crooked, and so cute.  I had to snap a pic.

(Ignore the expression.  He’s watching TV.)

Before we get to the answers from the last post, there’s going to be a lot of fun stuff coming up in the next few months. If you’re not already a facebook fan, please, go “like” me!  And share the page with any friends that might be interested.  I’ve got some big announcements coming up soon and you don’t want to miss them!

Now on to the answers!

What is your favorite color to photograph? (What color do you like folks to wear?)

This is a tough one, because I don’t really have a favorite!  I do love to avoid white though.  A little white is ok, but completely white shirts washes most people out.  Color is good.  🙂

a

What’s the best dinner you’ve made your family in the last month or so?

Another hard one!  I’ve been cooking a lot of new things lately, and it’s hard to pick one.  I’d probably have to say this Thai Chicken Soup recipe I got from Food Network Magazine.  Even Noah, the self described soup hater liked it!

a

What’s your favorite location for outdoor shoots?

Anyone who’s had a session with me knows I’m partial to Wilde Lake Park!  It’s nestled right in the middle of Columbia, but it’s quiet and so few people know it’s there.  It’s a beautiful park.

a

What is one lens that you consider to be absolutely essential?

An easy one!  My 50 mm.  I love that lens – it hardly ever leaves my camera.

a

And, since a post isn’t really complete without a picture or two, here’s a couple from the failed photo session from October.

He did stop dancing long enough for me to get 1 decent picture of him:

Before the teeth went crazy and started falling out!  (He’s about to lose the other one now.)

Oh!  If you still have questions, feel free to ask ’em.  Just head back to the question post.

At last! | columbia md photographer

November 22nd, 2010

Big happenings around here this past Thursday!  Remember the loose tooth?  We got a lot of giggle mileage from that tooth.  First, it hung down a little lower than the other tooth.  Then it pointed inwards.  And for the last week, it’s been poking out.  But when Noah got off the bus on Thursday, it […]

Before I get to the picture of the week, a quick announcement.  I am accepting a limited number of newborn models for a casting call this winter.  If you’re pregnant, and due between January and March, or know someone who is, please, check out my Casting Calls.

My younger son is obsessed with puzzles of late.  He even sleeps with one.  He’ll spend huge stretches of time working on the same puzzle over and over.  This is his newest – dinosaurs.

(When he’s taking apart this puzzle, he usually tells one of the dinosaurs, “don’t worry, you’ll get your mouth back soon.”  There’s never a day without a laugh with him around!)
