Continuing the back to school edition, here’s the picture of the week, and the picture of the week from a few months ago:

He certainly has gotten big!  And one more of my no-longer little guy:

Yup, my big guy got on the bus this morning to head for his first day of 1st grade.  He’s endlessly excited about this.  Over the weekend, he said, “I can’t believe I’m in first grade!  Sometimes it feels like I was just born yesterday.”  Yeah, tell me about it.

Hope everyone else in Howard County enjoys their first day of school today too!

Vacation so far | columbia md family photographer

We’re about halfway through our vacation.  It’s been a busy trip so far!

We went to Doumar’s:

We went to Busch Gardens and saw our Sesame Street friends:

And rode a lot of rides:

Noticed some interesting math at walmart:

And rode some dinosaurs!

And we’ve still got half a vacation left!

At the Zoo | columbia md photographer

Sunday, July 4th, 2010

Last week, I took my boys to North Carolina for a visit with their grandmother (and a week of superhero camp).  While we were there, we visited the fabulous NC Zoo.  It was hot.  As expected, there were a lot of sleepy animals.  Like the polar bear:

This sign was on the wall to the polar bear exhibit.  They have similar signs around the park.  I love the humor!

The elephants were wide awake, and moving (I guess the African animals are more used to the heat), which was amazing to watch.

After sauntering by the pond for a while, he decided to get in and go for a little swim:

A little later, his mother joined him for a quick dip too.  That was really something to watch!

The giraffes were spectacular too – wide awake and strolling around their enclosure.  Such graceful animals!

Despite the heat, it was a great day!  We all had fun.

This is a sort of sentimental picture of the week.  This is from almost 10 months ago, on Noah’s first day of school:

Today’s his last day of school.  He’s done with kindergarten and on to 1st grade.  Same backpack, though now he’s a good 2 inches taller.  And he’ll probably add another inch before he starts school again in the fall.  I hope he enjoys 1st grade as much as he enjoyed kindergarten.

Legos! | columbia md family photographer

Monday, June 21st, 2010

For the snapshot this week, here’s proud Noah, with the lego creation he spent all sunday afternoon working on (while Mama was off at a session) – it’s a repair shop.  He’s since added on to it – there’s now a parking lot, a crane, and he’s trying to figure out how to add a car wash.  He’s convinced he’s going to get his picture in the Lego Club magazine.  Noah’s nothing if not sure of himself.

He even made a sign, to declare the grand opening of the repair shop, complete with balloons and kindergarten spelling, which I find endlessly cute.

So, should any of your lego vehicles break, you know where to send them.  Noah’s repair shop is open for business!

My kids have a horrible affliction known as Photographer’s Child Syndrome.  It almost guarantees that I will not be able to get a decent picture of them for the rest of their lives.  Once in a while, I get lucky, but usually, they whine, pout and demand candy for me to even attempt a picture of them.

My oldest, Noah, is about to turn 6.  This weekend, I tried to get a decent birthday picture of him.  A couple were ok:

There was a lot of this:

Once in a while, the planets align just right, and I get a good picture.

And that’s why I only take portraits of them twice a year.

We had a very busy week last week.  It was spring break, so I took the boys to visit grandma.  And Daniel got his first haircut!  He was a champ – not a tear, and barely a squirm.  Just happily ate his lollipop the whole time.  Hopefully no one will mistake him for a girl now.

Why I don’t show every shot

Friday, March 19th, 2010

For every session, I shoot way more images than I show.  Every so often, someone will ask why.  Children are unpredictable.  Adults are too.  We all have this nasty habit of needing to blink.  And it doesn’t matter how adorable you or your child is, that look just isn’t good.  My son is happy to demonstrate:

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Saturday, February 13th, 2010

Just a quick post to wish everyone a happy Valentine’s Day!

Despite the weather of late, I’m hopeful that spring is around the corner.  Now’s the time to book sessions for spring!  Also, I have limited availability for portrait parties.  This is a fabulous way to visit with friends and earn free portraits at the same time.  Contact me for more information.  Indoor and outdoor parties available.
