Ok, how’s this for a fun post?  Ask me a question, and I’ll answer it!  Nothing too personal (though I’ll gladly tell you what kind of toothpaste I use or what kind of milk is in our fridge!) and I’m not giving away any of my business secrets – at least not publicly.  But go ahead – comment with whatever question you’re dying to know the answer to, and in a few days, I’ll post the questions and answers.

Not only is it primary election time (did you know that early voting starts tomorrow?), but it’s time to fill out another important ballot!  The September issue of Maryland Family magazine is available around town (it’s FREE!) and it’s the annual voting issue.

I’d love it if you’d take a moment to fill out the ballot on pages 39 and 40 and vote for Emily Steele Photography as Best Family/Kids’ Photographer.  You must vote for a total of 10 categories for your ballot to be counted, and ballots must be mailed by Sept 23, 2010, but Maryland Family Magazine pays the postage for you!  Thank you for your vote!

Ok, I admit it.  I bought the incredibly cheesy infomercial product Topsy Turvy Strawberry planter.  My whole family loves strawberries, my older son is at the age to really start appreciating how plants grow, and I had a coupon at Bed Bath and Beyond.

In late March (I think) our strawberry plants arrived.  25 “plants”.  More like roots.  I was pretty skeptical, but we planted them, and we’ve been dutifully watering them every day, when the rain didn’t do it for us.  After a week or so, we saw some green, and by the end of spring break, we came home to green leaves poking out everywhere.  (3 of the plants didn’t grow, but out of 25+ (we got a few extra), I’m ok with that.)  About a week and a half ago, I noticed our first bud.  We’ve over a dozen buds now, and the first one is a full-fledged flower!  Won’t be long before we’ve got our first harvest of berries.

Here, though, is our first bud, taken at the end of last week, and a couple of it’s “younger siblings”:
